i've spent a lot of time by myself these past couple of weeks, probably a 50-50 split between voluntary and involuntary. For the most part it's been nice, the only thing that bothered me a little was having this gigantic nostalgia lake palace all to myself at night - the past couple nights kinda freaky with all the creaks and movement from the strong wintry wind gusts. I've had a handful of random visitors at times, but for the majority it's been myself and the resident puppy, Maya.
I think this is the longest spread of time i've spent with the pup, and it's been a real pleasant experience except for the one day she decided to run out onto the big frozen lake and then to a neighbor's yard - me without thinking running onto the mostly frozen water (i say mostly frozen because i felt these deep crunches underneath each light-footed step i took, i imagined the shifting of tectonic plates during an earthquake and the inevitable parting of ice beneath me) and then she had the to run into the neighbor's yard only humanly accessible by climbing up onto their boat dock. She smelled the scent of Zeus, the more than fitting name of the black-and-white-specked Great motherfucking Dane i had the pleasure of meeting myself once i hoisted my frozen body onto their lawn, i was greeted by this massive friendly beast, no joke - with his ears pointy he was taller than me and i'm 5'3". Nice dog, but damn huge and even non-threatening me, i was invading his lawn......i was like "hey Zeus, nice to meet ya, i'll be leaving now....(to get the leash)"
Finally after what-seemed like 45 minutes, probably only like 7, Zeus' owner caught Maya by the collar and embarrassed me pulled that frisky flirtatious goldendoodle all the way back home. Dogs don't laugh, but i felt like she was laughing at me directly calling me a dumbass for believing dogs could ignore their animal instincts. That'll teach me to play without a leash nearby. After getting over being laughed at by a dog, we shared a mid-morning nap on the couch and life was back to normal. I love dogs, especially this one.
I'm gonna be a little sad when i don't have to watch her anymore, i really enjoy her spunk and love for humans. Here's some snaps of us being friends:
