ode to stuffing

Thanksgiving is a time to sit down and reflect on how nice life is (distracting oneself from the original turkey day festivities of famine, disease, and slaying of indigenous people in loin cloths)

this year i am thankful for many things and i thought i'd share some of my thankfulness with the masses, hoping to spread some holiday cheer

I am thankful for . . . . . . . . . . . .

1. my iPhone, providing hours of entertainment, communication, and less than perfect photographs as seen in this and other postings.

2. STUFFING

3. Having awesome friends and meeting new awesome friends

4. New additions to the extended family/wiener dogs

5. The pharmaceutical sales people who bring catered lunches to my office almost weekly and occasionally invite us to free fancy dinners at places too swanky for my bank account.

6. My gallbladder reminding me that eating greasy food is bad for me.

7. My sister's Rod Stewart hair

8. Season 2 of Dexter on dvd

9. Bourbon

10. Barack Obama (photo compliments of missequential aka my seeester)

Nostalgia is a learned behavior

My parents are pretty cool people. They live in this old home that was “updated” in the early 1970’s. Being a child of the 80’s my knowledge of the 70’s has been somewhat limited to growing up listening to really awesome rock music, sitting on itchy upholstered sofas, getting splinters from 2 random walls with Brady Bunch station wagon wood paneling, and some really funky looking and/or textured wallpaper. As you can imagine, over the past 30-plus years my parents have lived in their home, couches have been replaced, my music appreciation of other eras grew far past my father’s original vinyl collection turned into more easily accessible and numerous cd collection, hence, broadening my appreciation and lyrical memory.

I’ve learned a lot from my parents and I respect them greatly, but seriously guys . . . . . . can you please change your walls? I know changing 30-year old wallpaper is a huge inconvenience, but every time I look at the walls I feel like need to be hallucinating to fully appreciate its aesthetic value. I'm trying to provide some constructive criticism like "the pink and blue carpets in the upstairs bedrooms match perfectly" or "if only the flowers could smell as good as they looked" - if I could just keep a straight face (i'm trying real hard)

In case you don't believe me i've provided concrete evidence. (Don't tell my mom, she'd be mortified):
bathroom

close-up FLOWERS

living room, the one classy victorian print that matches the actual decor and era home was built

Oh yes, this is textured one on many walls throughout the entire house!

parent's room (notice the gold stripes!)

sister's room

my room, with foily gold detail and dizzying popping pattern (probably the reason why i've always been fond of symmetry and repetitive prints)

I’m polling for the ugliest wall. You can submit votes as comments or email me with your distaste at: mia.falco@gmail.com I will also take votes for favorite wall for all you wallpaper lovers (although i can't stand the paper, i do have fondness for my room's decor)

sneaky little presents

In a frantic attempt to clean the upstairs of my parent's home for holiday guests I came across a thoughtful birthday present from Meghan and Val? circa 1999-2000. One night back in high school i had this genius idea to use my friend's clippers and buzz my hair to a little less than 2". Little did i know the impact it made on my friends, family, and teenie boppers worldwide.junior year 1999 (still on display in multiple family member's homes in plain view -just for laughs)

Ah yes, everyone has their embarrassing moments and piss-poor haircuts, mine happen way too frequently and in the late 1990's, NSYNC was my nemesis:

and then finally some truth to the whole book:

Every once in a while at family gatherings a aunt or cousin will take a trip down memory lane
and bring out the photo just for ha-ha's. It's a classic, thanks for the precious memories ladies!
